About WBA

Welcome to the Wheat Breeding Assembly, Brisbane July 2013 (WBA Brisbane 2013), from the Wheat Breeding Society of Australia (WBSA) and the local organizing committee (LOC) – Lynne McIntyre, Mark Dieters and Jack Christopher.

The Australian wheat industry faces the challenge of a future likely to be characterized by variable environments, reduced inputs and a need to increase yields. At the Wheat Breeding Assembly representatives of key wheat industry groups meet to address these challenges and coordinate activities to more efficiently deliver genetic solutions for the Australian wheat community.  At the hugely successful WBA Perth 2011 a diverse array of the wheat industry was represented from growers and advisors to government organisations and commercial operators.  WBA Brisbane2013 will bring together a broad range of key wheat industry players with the aim of meeting the burgeoning demand for wheat both now and into the future.

WBA Brisbane 2013 will be held at Sofitel Brisbane Central Hotel located in the heart of Brisbane, which is conveniently accessed by public transport.
The program has been designed to address key research and industry issues.  Commencing with a national and international perspective to wheat breeding, it will continue with presentations from keynote and invited  speakers addressing adaptation to Australian environments, biotic challenges to wheat production and opportunities for end-product quality. The program will conclude with presentations that describe the latest innovations in plant breeding technologies. Oral presentations will be given by industry representatives and selected wheat pre-breeding experts, as well as by invited presentations from experts working in related research areas outside of wheat. Poster presentations will also be well supported.

We look forward to welcoming you to the 2013 Wheat Breeding Assembly in Brisbane, Queensland.
