In the morning participants will visit facilities at the UQ’s School of Agriculture and Food Science and CPI on UQ’s St Lucia campus. The morning will focus on use of controlled environment conditions for: i) rapid generation advance (8-12 weeks), disease screening under controlled temperature and light, and phenotyping for water-use efficiency; and ii) studies of impacts of climate change (photoperiod, increased temperature, VPD and CO2) on cereals and model crops.

Following lunch, those choosing the half-day option can travel back to the city and their hotel via the City Cat, while participants who opt for the full day tour will travel by bus to Gatton (approximately 1 ¼ hours). The second half of the tour will focus on phenotyping for adaptation to drought and climate change, and will include: high throughput phenotyping platform development (such as thermal imaging using radio-controlled helicopter and buggy with hyperspectral reflectance capability), lysimeters to measure water use efficiency, rain out shelters, and root chambers. The bus will return participants to the Sofitel hotel in time for the WBA Brisbane 2013 welcome reception, commencing at 6:30pm.
